National Assembly gets new Clerk

The new Clerk of the National Assembly, Jutta Alexis was confirmed in the position this week.

Alexis was sworn in on Monday. She replaced Shelda Commettant who resigned after the sixth National Assembly was sworn. Alexis was one of the few staff of the National Assembly’s Secretariat who continued to work with the third branch of the Government after the opposition Linyon Demokratik Seselwa, LDS, won a majority of seats in the house.

Alexis was the Public Relations Officer prior to being appointed Clerk of the National Assembly.

The Speaker of the House, Patrick Pillay welcomed her in her new position and thanked her for staying to hold the boat steady during a time when most of the senior officers of the National Assembly resigned en- masse.

The Leader of the Opposition, Wavel Ramkalawan, also had words of appreciation for Alexis.

“You have shown your professionalism and friendship during these difficult times of the sixth National Assembly. You were willing to walk with us during that period.”

The Leader of Government Business also congratulated Alexis on her confirmation.

On Monday also the Deputy Clerk of the National Assembly, Tania Isaac, was also presented to the house and members of the public.

Alexis is the sixth Clerk of the National Assembly. So far the National Assembly has yet to appoint a man in this position.
